This listing is an attempt to cite and describe all of the Marquis de Sade’s works that have been written in English, including the various essays and biographies about him. The bibliography on the following link is from my own collection or from advertisements from dealers in regards to the books descriptions. Currently, I am mainly working on pre-1970 books, books after this date I will include as funds and time permit.

Publishers to avoid:
New York: Castle and Paris: Le Ballet Des Muses
Castle obtains the license from New York & London: British Book Centre, edits the stories and uses cheap paper in their hardbound editions. Le Ballet takes already printed material in English (i.e. Dawes: Life and Works) and produces cheap paperbacks which are sometimes sold for a higher price than the original since it is from France.

Printing History of: The Marquis de Sade: His Life and Works by C.R. Dawes Originally published by London: Robert Holden and Company as a one hundred copy limited edition in 1927. Later was mass produced a hardbound edition by the same publisher of an unknown quantity. Had two further reprints that I know of, the first is the Le Ballet Des Muses which is lacking the copyright date (published prior to 1954) and the Macaulay Co. edition which is also lacking a copyright date.
